Officers of the City’s Anti-Gang Unit acted quickly after a shocking daylight drive-by shooting incident on the N1 on Wednesday afternoon left one man dead and two others wounded, arresting eight suspects including one a police official, in connection with the incident.

In less than 24 hours, the Anti-Gang Unit had nabbed the suspects, who ranged from approximately 18 to 48 years old.

The group was found in an informal settlement near Cape Town International Airport in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Police spokesperson Novela Potelwa told EWN one of the suspects is a police official.

“Eight wanted suspects were arrested in an informal settlement along Klipfontein Road in Philippi following what is believed to be a gang-related shooting. Police also seized a vehicle with spent cartridges.”

The eight individuals will appear in court soon.
