Power has been restored in most parts of Durban after an explosion at the 275kv Klaarwater major substation.
Yesterday’s explosion caused widespread power outages to about half of the area.

While the city experienced major disruption to traffic this morning, the Ethekwini Municipality has confirmed that they are working on the issue and that power had been largely restored.
“What happened is that we had a flashover that took over at our Klaarwater substation. It took one line down,” Ethekwini’s head of electricity Maxwell Mthembu explained
“It caused a big bang and something that looked like fire. We’re still investigating the cause of the line falling down on the ground.”
