Nearly a dozen people were injured on the R101 just outside of Paarl when a bakkie, SUV and light motor vehicle collided.

ER24 personnel along with Metro Police arrived on the scene at 7.45am on Wednesday morning to find the bakkie in the middle of the road and the light motor vehicle and SUV on the side of the road. Two men were trapped inside the bakkie, and nine other victims were found at the scene.

Specialised rescue equipment had to be used to free the two trapped men from the bakkie. Upon further inspection, the medics found that three people had sustained serious injury, while the remaining eight victims sustained moderate to minor injuries.

All victims were treated for their injuries, and the seriously injured were provided with pain-relief medication before being transported to nearby hospitals.

The details surrounding the incident are unknown, and local authorities are investigating the collision.
