Another week, another loadshedding announcement. Eskom announced that due to shortage of generation capacity, Stage 2 loadshedding would be implemented at 4:00pm to midnight on Tuesday.
“There is also a high probability that load shedding will require to be implemented during the same time on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings,” the power utility said.
According to Eskom, the implementation of loadshedding is due to the breakdown of a single generation unit at Arnot Power Station and three at Tutuka Power Station over the last 24 hours. To add to the power capacity burden, there have been delays in returning units to service at Arnot, Kusile and Tutuka power stations which have placed a major strain on the power generation system.
There is currently 4 550MW available for planned maintenance, while another 14 182MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.
