Eskom announced Stage 5 would take effect from 10am today (Saturday, 17 September).
According to News24, a whopping 45 units tripped in the space of seven days. The bad news appears to keep rolling in for both Eskom and South Africans as constraints on the available generators will see the current levels pushed to Stage 5.
“Due to the breakdown of five generating units overnight, Stage 5 loadshedding will regretfully be implemented until 05:00 Monday,” the power utility announced.
Ekom also noted that if any further breakdowns occurred, higher stages would be implemented.
“Eskom apologises for the continued and unfortunate loadsheddding, which is implemented as a last resort in view of the shortage of generation capacity and the need to attend to breakdowns and carry out planned maintenance to return units to service,” it concluded.
