Cysman was arrested on Friday, 23 December, by the Hawks’ Crimes Against the State’s team after Eskom performed an internal investigation, which was then handed over to the Hawks for further probing after Eskom laid a complaint regarding the theft of diesel.
Cysman was arrested while at home during his suspension.
It was discovered that Cysman had allowed a tanker to collect the stolen diesel and declared that the tanker was empty upon its departure from Eskom, stating that all the diesel had been offloaded.
A truck driver was arrested last month at the Camden power station in Mpumalanga after it was discovered that the driver was transporting sub-grade coal meant for Eskom.
Cysman was released on R50 000 bail and is expected to appear in court in February 2023 for further investigation.
Eskom urges the public to report any information on theft or vandalism to ensure that perpetrators are prosecuted.
