Four men accused of robbing German tourist Nick Frischke appeared in court on Thursday, 16 January.
During the testimonial of the lead investigator in Frishcke’s case, it was revealed that the 22-year-old was stabbed in the back, following the robbery, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Nick Frischke, a German tourist who was on holiday in Cape Town around February 2023, was reported missing after he had been robbed while hiking along the Hangberg Trail in Hout Bay.
To date, efforts to trace him have proven unsuccessful despite the involvement of local authorities, private investigators and a reward to the value of R20 000, which had been offered by Frischke’s family.
Following the incident, five suspects were arrested, after being found in possession of items belonging to Frischke.
The men were later identified to be Igshaan Fisher, Jason Adonis, Vanroy Petersen, Carlo Guenantin and Melvin Guenantin.
The suspected offenders appeared in front of the Wynberg Regional Court in October of 2023, where they stood accused of aggravated robbery and possession of a firearm.
The men were also under investigation for a connection to Frischke’s possible murder.
The matter made its way back into court this past week as the group of accused, excluding Mr Jason Adonis, appeared in the Wynberg Regional Court.
On Thursday, 16 January, two police officers were called to the stand to testify.
During his testimony, lead investigator Dudley Truter stated that Melvin Geunatin implicated his co-accused, Ishaam Fischer, after stating that Fischer had been the one who stabbed the 22-year-old in the back after robbing him of his belongings.
Truter further relayed the details of an affidavit, which confirmed that following the stabbing, Frischke appeared to be weak and unable to walk properly.
Frishcke’s cellphone was one of the items that had been stolen. In Truter’s testimony, it was revealed that the cellphone was found in Geunatin’s possession.
Geunatin, however, argued that he had bought the cellphone for his daughter from Fischer, who had allegedly stabbed Frischke. He further denied being involved in the robbery of Frischke.
According to EWN, Officer Truter will continue with his evidence once the matter resumes on 4 April, which is when cross-examination is set to begin.
