As the third week of the highly publicised Joshlin Smith kidnapping and human trafficking trial unfolds, the courtroom has been graced with explosive testimony that continues to captivate and horrify observers alike.
On Monday, the spotlight fell on Mickeyla Daniels, the sister of accused Kelly Smith, who took the stand to reveal startling claims that could significantly alter the course of the trial.
In a gripping testimony, Daniels recounted a conversation with her sister, Kelly Smith, a mere seven days after the disappearance of Joshlin Smith.
According to Daniels, Kelly had alleged that Joshlin was still in Saldanha Bay, raising urgent questions about the extent of her knowledge concerning the whereabouts of the missing child.
Her heart-wrenching and revealing testimony could significantly alter the course of the trial and raise profound questions about the alleged involvement of those closest to the missing child.
According to Daniels, Smith claimed that someone had planned to sell Joshlin, but due to the town becoming a hotspot for searches, they were unable to proceed.
Daniels’ testimony took a decisive turn when she was questioned about statements made by Kelly during a live social media interview with politician Gayton McKenzie.
Ashley Rix reported that Daniels vehemently denied her sister’s claims that Joshlin had been sold for R20 000, insisting that her own information came directly from Kelly, shedding doubt on the veracity of her sister’s narrative.
She emphasised that any information she had came directly from Smith herself.
The courtroom was silent as Daniels recounted her sister’s assertions, many in attendance visibly shaken by the gravity of the allegations.
This development has left many wondering what other evidence may come to light as the trial progresses and what this means for the ongoing search for the truth in a community still grappling with fear and uncertainty.
Strikingly, there has been no trace of the green-eyed child since her abduction, which has thrown the spotlight on the three accused: Jacquen ‘Boeta’ Appollis, Steveno van Rhyn and Joshlin’s own mother, Kelly Smith, all of whom have pleaded not guilty.
