Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) officials have issued a warning about a fraudulent drone event being promoted for Signal Hill on multiple dates in July, Cape {town}Etc reports.
SANParks authorities have clarified that on Facebook, the event, which is falsely advertised for evenings starting at 7:30 pm, is neither sanctioned nor legal, with reports indicating that attendees are being charged for participation.
Park rangers have already intercepted some visitors attempting to attend the unauthorized gatherings. TMNP has urged the public to avoid the park after sunset, emphasizing that park hours are strictly between sunrise and sunset for safety reasons.

Flying recreational drones within any national park is strictly prohibited, as confirmed by South African National Parks (SANParks). Officials have noted an increase in illegal drone usage for wildlife viewing, filming, and photography, often shared on social media.
Under the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) and the Protected Areas Act, no aircraft, including drones, may fly below 2,500 feet above a national park’s highest point without explicit permission from park authorities. Protected areas are designated no-fly zones to preserve wildlife and ensure visitor safety.
Park management is calling on the public to report any illegal drone activity or suspicious events to the Emergency Call Centre at 0861 106 417 or the Kloofnek office at 021 422 1601.
While drone technology offers exciting opportunities for photography and exploration, the rules governing national parks are in place for environmental protection and public safety. Park authorities stress that unauthorized events not only violate the law but also pose risks to wildlife and visitors.
