The SA Police Services alongside the Overberg fire department and WC Government Health EMS rushed to the Breede River, on the N2, close to Swellendam after a local man fell from a cliff around 7pm on Saturday 3 September.

Locals had enjoyed the afternoon at the river where the young man later fell from a height into the river to his demise – “he fell into the water before disappearing beneath the water surface,” stated the National Sea Rescue Unit.
The Overberg Traffic Services lead the rescue team providing lighting on the bridge along the N2’s Breede River bridge as well as controlled the traffic.
A response team of divers provided by the NSRI Agulhas did a “sweep-line search” without yielding any positive results, the body could not be recovered.
The search carried on the next day with the Police Dive Unit scuba diving in search of the missing man. The divers found the remains of the man and handed them over to Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
An inquest docket has been opened.
