A fire broke on the lower slopes of Table Mountain, along Molteno Dam, on Friday afternoon and is being fanned by strong winds. Emergency services are on the scene trying to douse the fire.

Helicopters are water bombing the area to keep the fire under control. Table Mountain Cableway is closed due to adverse weather conditions.

Working on Fire said in a Tweet, a spotter plane and two Huey helicopters are assisting to contain the fire along Molteno Dam.

Theo Layne, Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services Spokesman, said the large vegetation fire broke out at about 6.15pm in Tafelberg Road. At this point there is no property in danger and the concern is the fire being fanned by a strong south-easterly wind.
