A mountain fire has broken out on Victoria Road between Bakoven and Camps Bay.

Victoria Road has subsequently been closed at Houghton Road and Llandudno Road, as fire fighters work to contain the blaze. Two helicopters have been sent to the scene.

“Mountain Fire on Victoria Rd between Bakoven and Llandudno. Victoria Rd closed at Houghton Rd and Llandudno Rd, use alternative route,” said the City of Cape Town in a Tweet.

Unfortunately the current windy conditions are not conducive to fighting a fire.

In a statement the City said: “The City’s Fire & Rescue Service, along with teams from Table Mountain National Park and Working on Fire, are battling a blaze on the mountain slopes in the Camps Bay area. The call was recieved at 14:41 of the slopes alight.

“The fire is currently between Bakoven and Camps Bay above Victoria Road. Currently there are approximately eight firefighting appliances with a total of 45 staff members on scene. Two choppers and a spotter plane are water bombing the area. No property is in danger at this stage.
