Update:
The City of Cape Town’s Fire & Rescue Services have confirmed that the fire, which broke out at the Duram Paints factory building in Montague Gardens was successfully contained.
According to Fire & Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, several crews were called out in the early hours of Sunday morning, including ’11 fire engines, six water tankers and an aerial appliance’.
Carelse added that no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is unclear at this stage. An investigation has subsequently been launched.
Parts of northern Cape Town awoke to explosions and ominous dark clouds on Sunday morning as a building in Montague Gardens was discovered alight, reports Cape {town} Etc.

According to social media comments, multiple explosions could be heard coming from Durham Paints factory in Alternator Way since early this morning.
The fire was allegedly reported at 3:20am.
Footage of the paint factory fire shared on community news groups WC Live Traffic & Safety shows plumes of thick black smoke billowing from the Duram Paints building as firefighting efforts are underway.
It is believed that eight or nine fire trucks and water tenders are currently on the scene attending to the fire.
