SANParks – Table Mountain National Park has announced that the Fire Danger Index (FDI) for the greater Cape Town area is regarded as Very High for today.
“Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) kindly requests the public to exercise caution at all times. Do take extra care with all open flames and equipment that can cause sparks,” the Facebook post read.
They went on to say that if you spot a fire along the mountain, please call the TMNP emergency number on 086 110 6417, or 107 from a landline and 021 480 7700 from a mobile phone.
“Do not attempt to fight the fire on your own.Open fires are a common cause of uncontrolled fires in the Western Cape. Preferably, do not start a fire on hot, dry and windy days”

The Animal Welfare Society of SA also shared some valuable advice on how to protect your animals from a fire.
- Make sure your pet is easily identifiable
- Buy a pet rescue alert sticker
- Know where to find your furry best friend
- Know your vet’s contact information
- Practice routes of escape
- Keep leashes and an emergency kit near the exit
