The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services and partners continue to battle a large wildland fire on the slopes of Paarl Mountain, Cape {town} Etc reports.
According to the Cape Winelands District Municipality, fire crews and ground teams, assisted by the two helicopters, were able to secure the fire line running just above homes.
However, crews continue to battle the other lines.
It is reported that the fire is being triggered by a combination of hot weather, strong wind, and a high fuel load provided by dry alien vegetation.
According to the municipality, the crew reports that the terrain is difficult to maneuver in.
Two more choppers and a spotter, provided by the Provincial Disaster Management Center, have joined the two choppers from Leading Edge and are complementing the efforts of the two ground teams and fire crews from both the Cape Winelands and Drakenstein Municipalities.
As of 4pm, no damages have been reported.
