The Overberg District Municipality is grappling with an unfortunate incident that occurred this afternoon as their firefighting efforts continue to be challenged by a persistent veldfire in Bredasdorp, reports Cape {town} Etc.
A large fire truck from the Bredasdorp Fire Station rolled down an embankment while responding to the emergency, leaving two firefighters injured, who were promptly transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Richard Bosman, the Municipal Manager of Overberg District Municipality, confirmed the incident, expressing concern for the well-being of the injured firefighters. ‘We ask that the community keep them in their thoughts as they recover,’ Bosman stated.

The veldfire has proven to be a formidable challenge for the firefighting teams on the ground. ‘This has been a challenging and intense fire to contain, but our teams continue their efforts to bring it fully under control,’ Bosman added, highlighting the dedication of those tirelessly working to mitigate the fire’s impact.
In a show of gratitude, the Overberg District Municipality extended heartfelt appreciation to all firefighters, volunteers, and partner organisations involved in the firefighting efforts.
‘Their unwavering dedication and teamwork under difficult conditions have been invaluable,’ Bosman emphasised, acknowledging the collective effort that underpins their response to the crisis.
