Soaring temperatures on Wednesday prompted a call to DFW Fire & Rescue NPC firefighters to support a school sports day at Ronwee Primary, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The tanker crew arrived in a heavy-duty 4×4 and used the truck’s water cannon to lower the heat for pupils and teachers.
Crew commander Daan Van Leeuwen Boomkamp said the outing was a community service. Anthea Carlse and Sean King joined the team.
Staff and learners gathered as water sprayed across the field, creating laughter, cheers and a welcome respite from the sun.
The DFW Fire & Rescue NPC operates mainly in rural areas across the Cape Winelands. The organisation counts hundreds of farms and residents as members and frequently offers volunteer and pro bono assistance for medical emergencies and fires.
Local schools and farms rely on its rapid response and community focus.
The principal of Ronwee Primary thanked the crew for their swift action and enthusiastic support.
The visit doubled as a simple safety demonstration and a moment of shared joy for the children. For the DFW crew, the event underlined the value of local volunteer services and their role in supporting rural communities.
