With fierce south-easterly winds fuelling the flames, firefighters are bracing for a lengthy night as they work tirelessly to minimise damage to properties in the area.
City firefighters are joined by their colleagues from Table Mountain National Park and NCC Environmental Services.
Together, they form an extensive firefighting coalition, all under the coordination of an Incident Management Team designed to streamline their operations and ensure a concerted effort against the spreading blaze.
In response to the fire, several roads have been closed to secure the area and facilitate emergency operations.
The affected roads include:
- Capri Drive and Jamaica Drive
- Trinidad Close and Jamaica Drive
Moreover, access to the Glencairn Expressway is restricted between Kommetjie and Main Road, as authorities work to ensure public safety amidst the chaotic circumstances.
Officials have urged the public to avoid the vicinity as much as possible and comply with road closures and instructions from traffic officers.

As the flames of a fierce wildfire spread through the Jonkersdam area of Table Mountain National Park (TMNP), emergency services are ramping up their firefighting efforts to protect both people and wildlife, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The fire, which ignited near the Glencairn Expressway, is inching closer to residential areas in Capri, raising alarms among local residents and prompting an immediate response from firefighting teams.
The collaborative efforts between SANParks, the City of Cape Town Fire & Rescue Services, and other partner organisations have mobilised an impressive workforce of over 60 ground crew firefighters.
These dedicated teams have been deployed to tackle the fire’s advance, working tirelessly along both the left and right flanks of the fire line. Their main objective is to contain the blaze and prevent it from reaching populated areas.
The multi-agency firefighting operation also consists of assets from Newlands Working on Fire, Provincial Disaster Management, and the Volunteer Wildfire Services. This diverse group underscores the significant regional commitment to battling the wildfire effectively.
Adding to their arsenal, a drone surveillance unit has been engaged, providing real-time aerial monitoring to enhance tactical coordination and improve residential protection operations.
In response to the developing situation, an Incident Command Centre has been established to ensure seamless coordination among all involved operations. This centre will oversee communication and strategic deployment of resources, fostering an environment conducive to effective firefighting.
Authorities are urging residents in adjacent areas to remain vigilant and heed any instructions coming from emergency services.
The current status of the fire presents a tangible threat to local homes, making it crucial for community members to stay informed and prepared for any necessary evacuations or safety measures.

‘Currently, firefighters from SANParks and the City of Cape Town Fire & Rescue Services are actively working on containing the blaze,’ said SANParks.
