Many residents claimed that they narrowly avoided the flames, and now have nothing left apart from the clothes on their back.
News24 has reported that the fire is believed to have started as a result of a quarrel within one of the shacks, after one of the involved parties set fire to their home.
The fire was further spurred on by the City’s strong winds.
Gift of the Givers has been providing relief to affected residents, though the rampant flames prohibited immediate assistance.
The organisation did however return to the scene early on Monday morning, once the fire had been extinguished, confirmed EWN.
