Brace yourselves South Africa, a Netflix price hike is heading your way from Tuesday, and this is what you can now expect to pay:
The price of the popular Standard plan will increase by R20, increasing from R139 to R159 per month while the price of the Premium subscription will soar by R30, from R169 to R199 per month.
This is the first price hike since Netflix made its way into the hearts of South Africans and across the continent in January 2016.
While the increases to the Standard and Premium services will be implemented for existing members in the next few weeks, new subscribers looking to ‘Netflix and chill’ will have to pay the amended price immediately.
Subscribers will be notified ahead of time when their price increase kicks in.
But the bigger question is, will this deter users from enjoying some of the best shows, like Squid Game, that recently raked in almost $900 million, or is this a small price to pay for the comfort of coming home from work, kicking back and binge-watching your favourite series.
