The Department of Health reported Wednesday, [April 8]  that there have been 5 more coronavirus related deaths in South Africa. This brings the total COVID-19 related deaths in the country to 18.

In addition, they reported that the total number of confirmed cases of the virus has increased by 96 since their previous update. The total number of confirmed cases is now 1 845.

The updated provincial breakdown is as follows:

Gauteng: 782

Western Cape: 495

KwaZulu-Natal: 354

Free State: 88

Eastern Cape: 45

Limpopo: 21

Mpumalanga: 21

North West: 15

Northern Cape: 13

Unallocated: 11

To date, 63 776 coronavirus tests have been conducted. This is an increase of 5 678 since their last report.

The Department of Health expressed their condolences for the deceased and thanked the health workers who treat sick patients daily.
