Two suspects, including an ex-police officer, briefly appeared in the George Magistrate Court on Monday, 07 March, following their involvement in a fuel fraud syndicate.
According to Hawks’ spokesperson Zinzi Hani, the 29-year-old former Constable, Khuezi Gift Tshuku and the 25-year-old Zixolisile Skade were arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team together with George SAPS Crime Prevention Unit at a petrol station in George on Saturday, 5 March.
“The Hawks’ team in conjunction with local police were able to bust the alleged fraudsters operating with cloned fuel cards.
“The duo was arrested in possession of 15x 25-litre containers of fuel and cloned cards with Western Cape Government fleet card information on the magnetic strip,” Hani said.

Hani further mentions that both suspects are expected to be back in court on 14 March 2022 for bail information, however, the investigation into the matter is ongoing and more arrests are imminent.
Meanwhile, a 38-year-old man has been sentenced to a fine of R10 000-00 for the unlawful possession of elephant Ivory, after he entered into a plea agreement with the Smbamtate.
According to reports, Cosmus Ziwande pleaded guilty to one charge under the Contravention of Section 42(1) (b). He was arrested on 14 May 2021 following information from Crime Intelligence that was operationalised by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Cape Town.
