Condolences continue to pour in for the founder of Nakhlistan, Mohamed Shukoor Mowzer.
Shukoor passed away at the age of 63 after a long suffering from diabetes. He was well known in Cape Town for his spirit of giving and his caring nature.
He founded Nakhlistan 36 years ago with a group of friends, who saw the need within the community to cook food on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Premier Alan Winde has described the man as an example to everyone in the province.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have learnt of the passing of Shukoor Mowzer, the founder of Nakhlistan. For the past 39 years, he has marked the beginning of Eid by feeding thousands each year. I want to convey my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
“Having previously been among the 100s of volunteers that he has recruited to help cook for those most vulnerable, I know that Mr Mowzer will certainly leave behind a legacy marked by generosity and humanity. He is an example to all of us in the WC.”
He leaves behind his wife, two children, a grandson, a son in law, siblings and his community.
