Police are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed four lives and left three others injured early on Thursday morning at the old taxi rank in Mfuleni, Cape Town, Cape {town} Etc reports.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Western Cape Taxi Violence Unit, part of the Serious Violent Crime detectives, has taken the lead in the investigation. The shooting occurred at approximately 6am when two suspects opened fire. Of the seven people shot, one is believed to be a commuter.
Authorities believe the attack is linked to ongoing taxi-related violence in the area.
In response, SAPS has increased police presence at key taxi ranks across Cape Town to prevent further violence and reassure the public.
No arrests have been made yet, but detectives are actively following up on multiple leads. As part of their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice, Western Cape police are offering a R100 000 reward for information that could help solve the case.
