Four people perished and three others were injured in a three-vehicle pileup on the R45 near Franschhoek last night. ER24 paramedics along with Metro Police and Fire Services responded to the call and arrived on the scene to find twisted vehicles scattered across the road.

Two victims were found lying motionless inside one of the vehicles, and on closer inspection, it was found that the two individuals had already died. In the second vehicle, paramedics found a critically-injured five-year-old girl and a man and woman, presumably the little girl’s parents, who were trapped in the vehicle and had moderate injuries.

Fire Services used specialized tools to free the two trapped victims, who received advanced life support interventions after being freed.

All patients were sent to a nearby hospital for urgent care. Tragically, a critically-injured man and the five-year-old girl both succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital.

One other patient from the third vehicle was found to have sustained only minor injuries. The patient was treated and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
