The Wynberg Regional Court on Friday heard alarming details about the involvement of four suspects in a string of robberies carried out on Valentine’s Day last year, coinciding with the mysterious disappearance of 23-year-old German tourist Nick Frischke, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Frischke vanished while hiking the Hangberg trail in Hout Bay on 14 February 2023.
The court proceedings revealed testimonies from four witnesses, including three police officers and the mother of one of the accused, aimed at supporting the ongoing investigation. The suspects—Carlo Geunantin (23), Ishaam Fischer (21), Vanroy Petersen (22), and Melvin Geunatin (36)—are all alleged to have played roles in the crimes committed on the same day Frischke disappeared.
During the hearing, it was disclosed that the suspects had also carried out the armed robbery of a delivery truck. Notably, Frischke’s belongings, including his cellphone, backpack, and credit card, were recovered from the suspects. They have admitted to robbing him on the Hangberg trail, though the investigation has not yet produced enough evidence to add murder charges.
Frischke’s case has drawn significant international attention, with the investigation continuing despite his ongoing disappearance.
The trial has been postponed until 16 January 2025, and the suspects remain in custody as authorities continue their work.
