Recently, a former Durban police officer-turned-private-investigator, Brad Nathanson, said the situation could’ve been handled differently, but explains that he would have reacted the same way officers did.
In a detailed Facebook post that reads,” I am an ex-policeman and I can tell you this and that is that if I were on the scene that day, the moment that the suspect shouted Waar is my gun? (where is my gun).
“I would have drawn my weapon and been prepared for the suspect no matter what he went to fetch. The moment I saw a gun in his hand I would have warned him verbally and if he raised that firearm.
“I would have shot him, likely in the head, so as to immobilize him and so as to protect myself from being shot along with my colleagues,” the post read.
Now, Cloete’s friends have reportedly weighed in on the situation – bringing to light not only opinions on Cloete as a person and father but also matters surrounding the altercation that led to the eventual shooting.
One of his friends, Breydon Blignaut, who had accompanied Cloete on the trip wrote in a Facebook post:
“What the people don’t know is Len Cloete is the most purest of souls and would never hurt a fly without reason.
“He is the greatest example of what a dad and husband should be, we can all learn from him and will continue learning for many many years. Let’s do this Len.”
In terms of the cases’ update, what is currently being expressed, as per the South Coast Herald, is that Cloete and his wife, alongside the Blignauts had all checked in to the Muldersdrift Misty Hills Country Lodge for the evening whereby Cloete had been kicked out by the loge’s orders.
According to the publication – supper at the lodge was the original plan, and the decision to check in came due to curfew restrictions.
However, why Cloete was called to be removed is still unclear.
