The holy month of Ramadaan has started and humanitarian aid organisation Gift of the Givers is making sure that underprivileged areas across the Western Cape are well-cared for thanks to 10 000 food parcels being handed out to those in need.
“Fasting disciplines the physical being, prayer enhances spirituality and enriches the soul, whilst charity strengthens the social compact enhancing human relationships.
The hunger felt is a reminder of universal hunger irrespective of race, religion, colour, class, geographical location or circumstances of the hungry individual,” it shared in a Facebook post.
The organisation’s logistics centre has been flooded with activity as bulk food supplies are distributed to various facilities, various faith institutions and those in need, as per News24.

The feeding programme will also be extended to various parts of the province, including Mossel Bay, George and Beaufort West in the hopes that everyone can “reap the joys and blessings of this sacred month,” according to the organisation.

On 3 April, Muslims around South Africa began fasting. The organisation began handing out parcels on the eve of Ramadaan, an initiative that will continue until Wednesday.
According to the organisation, it feeds around 5000 people every night for the breaking of fast.
