A young girl who disappeared in 2019 has reportedly been found alive in a ‘secret room’ under a staircase by the US State police.
Paislee Shultis, who is now 6-years-old was found in a house in the town of Saugetries after a search on Monday, 14 February, reports BBC News.
At the time she was reported missing, officers suspected her biological parents, Kimberly Cooper (33) and Kirk Shultis Jr (32) of kidnapping her after they lost custody, adds NDTV News.
After police received a tip-off that Paislee was being kept at a hidden location in the town of Saugerties, Ulster County, police obtained a warrant to search the house, even though the property had been searched before.
Kirk Schultis Sr (57) owns the property and was present when the search took place, but he had no idea about Paislee’s whereabouts, says the police.
After an hour passed, one of the detectives found that a staircase leading to the basement appeared to be strangely constructed. After the police removed several boards, Paislee was found along with Ms Cooper hiding in what the police can only describe as a “small, cold, and wet” enclosure.
Paislee was examined by paramedics and is in good health. She has been reunited with her legal guardian and older sister. However, her non-custodial parents have been charged with custodial interference and endangering the welfare of a child.
