Glee star and singer Naya Rivera is missing and presumed dead. Authorities believe she drowned after taking a trip to a lake in Southern California with her son on Wednesday [July 8]. Rivera hired a boat for the pair to spend the afternoon on. Her 4-year-old son, Josey, was found alone and sleeping on the boat by staff from the rental company.

Josey had his life jacket on and an adult-sized life jacket was found on the boat, reports E!News. He told sheriff’s deputies that his mother had gone for a swim in the water but never returned.

Her purse, wallet and some food were also found in the boat, said investigators.

The Venture County Sheriff’s Department (VCSD) deployed a dive team and air unit to search for the actress.

In a tweet, the VCSD announced that a missing person at Lake Piru has been identified as the 33-year-old actress.  The rescue operation was suspended and will continue at first light on July 9.

“This is considered to be a horrible accident,” said Ventura County Sheriff’s Department to NBC Los Angeles. According to authorities, no foul play is suspected at this time.

Rivera is famous for her role as Santana in hit TV show Glee, which aired between 2009 and 2015. She shares 4-year-old son Josey Dorsey with ex-husband Ryan Dorsey.
