The prisoner who escaped from the Goodwood Correctional facility on Sunday, July 25, is back behind bars. Ashwin Malan, escaped while doing some outside work within the premises of the prison.
According to Bonteheuwel ward councillor Angus Mckenzie, Malan was rearrested in the Bonteheuwel area where his mother lives.
” Our vast network of street WhatsApp groups and proactive community ensured that credible information was filtered through to us and followed up by a joint effort between Law Enforcement, SAPS and Correctional Services,” McKenzie said.
Malan’s arrest comes minutes before President Cyril Ramhosa addressed the nation regarding the country’s developments in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ramaphosa indicated that several of the country’s lockdown regulations will be relaxed as adjusted level 3 lockdown was implemented with immediate effect.
