The Animal Welfare Society of South Africa has cautioned residents to be on the lookout for a grey mongoose entering properties in Kenwyn, Cape {town} Etc reports.

Last night, the animal shelter advised residents to:
- Not feed the animal
- Not approach the animal
- Not encourage it into the home to become a pet
- To keep dogs away

Cape grey mongooses are typically active during the day; in summer from about 6am to 8:45pm. However, the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) reports that they are not active during the hottest time of the day and would rather resume activities in the afternoon.
They eat a wide range of (mainly) animal and (some) plant material but mainly prey on small mammals and insects. Their diet includes carrion, birds, reptiles, amphibians, wild fruits and garbage.
They typically live and shelter in burrows or dense vegetation. Bear in mind that they are fast and agile with a powerful bite.
