Eight passengers sustained serious injuries on Monday morning when a Golden Arrow bus was petrol bombed near Duinefontein and Govan Mbeki Roads in Gugulethu, reports Cape {town} Etc.
According to the Cape Town News & Traffic WhatsApp channel, the assault happened in the early hours of the morning, targeting a bus on its route through Gugulethu. Emergency services extinguished the fire swiftly, preventing greater casualties.
All eight victims received immediate medical care and Golden Arrow confirmed no fatalities but condemned the incident as ‘callous and extremely dangerous’.
Police are currently investigating the matter as suspects exploited the darkness and residential areas to evade capture.
Golden Arrow spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyer emphasized the randomness of the violence, stating, ‘These attacks cannot simply be accepted as the norm.’
Updates are expected as new evidence emerges.
