A 26-year-old man from Gugulethu has been arrested for fleeing the scene after allegedly stabbing his mother repeatedly over an argument that broke out between them. The mother died from injuries sustained.
According to SAPS representative Captain Sitshitshi, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon [July 14] in the Gugulethu area.
“The 67-year-old deceased was at home and about to leave for the shop when the suspect arrived and an argument ensued. The man allegedly stabbed his mother multiple times and she was rushed to a medical facility where she succumbed to the stab wounds. The suspect allegedly fled the scene with the deceased’s vehicle,” said Captain Sitshitshi.
“A tip-off received led to the arrest of the suspect on Wednesday [June 15] in Cape Town.”
The suspect is expected to appear in Athlone Magistrates Court on Friday, 17 July 2020 on charges of murder.
