A Wednesday morning turned into tragedy in Belhar when a 35-year-old father was shot dead just after dropping off his children at the Logos Assembly of God Church’s ECD Centre.
Police were called to Drake Street at about 7:50am and arrived to find the man with gunshot wounds to his head and body. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene, as per Smile FM.
According to reports, the victim had just dropped off his children when he was confronted by an unidentified gunman, who opened fire before escaping. The motive behind the killing remains under investigation.
Pastor Albert Higgins of the Logos Church broke the news to the community, sharing his grief in a statement.

‘A Kids World ECD parent, while dropping off their two children with his wife, was fatally shot,’ he said.
Higgins confirmed the family as the Stephens, urging the public to keep them in their thoughts.
‘We ask that you please keep the Stephens family in your prayers during this devastating time. We also up-lift our ECD staff, church family, and community members who were present and are deeply traumatised by this horrific act of violence that occurred right outside God’s house.’
