The hunt continues for four men who kidnapped a 21-year-old man at gunpoint from his family’s business in Hanover Park on Friday.
The Voice of the Cape radio reported that the four armed men stormed into Huzaifa Sange’s family home, ransacked their takeaway business and ran off with the victim using a family car. Family members said the perpetrators posed as customers wanting to buy food before storming into their house demanding money.
The victim has been living in Cape Town for the past seven years with his brother, Usaina, and sister-in-law, Munazia, and assisted in running the family business as per Weekend Argus.
Sange’s sister in-law, Munazia, shared that the perpetrators told them that someone sent them to fetch money and they demanded to know where the safe was. She said she was putting her baby to sleep when the incident took place.
“I heard my husband scream and I ran from the bedroom to the lounge. My husband, Huzaifa, and the kidnappers [were there]. Two of them had guns. They told me not to scream and put the gun against my baby’s head. They said they would shoot her if I did, so I stayed quiet,” she said.
She added that they took everything from cell phones and money, to clothes, baby’s nappies, wet-wipes and even a baby bag, tikka chicken and chips.
She said all the family wants is for them to bring back Huzaifa and they can keep everything. “The detective told us that this is something very unusual – to be kidnapped after a ransacking and that’s what’s making us worry. Huzaifa hardly speaks English and doesn’t know the area very well. We are worried sick,”she said.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said Philippi SAPS had registered a case of house robbery and kidnapping for investigation.“They fled the scene with the family’s white Hyundai and a 21-year-old male in an unknown direction and are yet to be arrested,” he said.
Anyone with any information on this incident is urged to contact the investigating officer Detective Lieutenant colonel Gavin Sias on 082 4697 243 or Crime Stop on 08 600 10 111.
