The Hawks arrested a 70-year-old man at the Cape Town International Airport on Thursday for possession of tik valued at R600 000.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau team based in Bellville and the Border Police based at the airport received a tip that a foreign national allegedly attempted to leave South Africa with drugs.
‘Information was immediately operationalised. [The] suspect was spotted and upon searching his luggage, packets of crystal methamphetamine (tik) [were] found in a hidden compartment.’
A total of 4.1kg of tik was found in his luggage.
The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court on 10 June 2024.
