Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) discovered and seized cannabis to an estimated value of over R260 000 when they raided a dagga cultivation farm in Bo-Swaarmoed in Ceres. A 42-year-old man was arrested and will appear in court today 29 April on charges of dealing in drugs.
According to a statement by the South African Police Service, the team was tipped off about drug activity happening at the farm which led to the discovery of 171 cannabis plants estimated to the value of R171 000 and dried cannabis weighing 79,95kg estimated to the value of R89 834.
This is after raids that were conducted at numerous premises used to cultivate cannabis and plantation plants.
The Provincial Head of the Western Cape, Major General Mathipa Makgato commended the team on an outstanding job.
He said: “Hawks are absolutely committed to tackling drug production in our communities and will continue to respond quickly to reports of drug activity across the country.”
