Brandon Janeke, a young man from Heideveld, didn’t hesitate to act. Braving the rough seas, he risked his life to save both women from drowning. His heroic efforts left him physically exhausted and in need of medical attention, and by the time Janine Roode Becker arrived at the scene, Brandon was resting in a car, recovering from his courageous rescue. Deeply moved by his selflessness, Becker waited for the paramedics to finish before speaking to Brandon. She was full of praise for the young hero, ‘This young man, Brandon Janeke from Heideveld, didn’t think twice to risk his own life in that rough sea to save two women. He deserves recognition and an award for his bravery.’
Janine hopes that City officials will honour Brandon for his remarkable actions at Bloubergstrand. In addition to her in-person praise, she wrote a heartfelt message for him: ‘Well done, Brandon. You were absolutely incredible. You put your own life on the line to save not one, but two lives. Words can’t express how amazing you are.
‘As a mother, I’m proud of you. Your mother must be proud to have raised a son who didn’t hesitate to help those women. Cape Town needs more people like you.’
