A quick-thinking surfer is being hailed a hero after helping rescue a young man who got into serious trouble in the water at Clifton 2nd Beach, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Emergency services were alerted early on Sunday morning after an eyewitness reported a drowning in progress, prompting a rapid response from NSRI Bakoven, City of Cape Town rescue teams and multiple supporting agencies.
As rescue crews rushed to the scene, it emerged that a female surfer had already paddled out, using her board to reach the struggling swimmer and bring him back toward shore.
By the time responders arrived, the surfer was making her way in with the man on her board, while beachgoers moved in to assist as they reached the shoreline.

A doctor who happened to be at the beach immediately stepped in to provide medical care, working alongside paramedics who soon joined the effort to stabilise the patient.
The man, a 23-year-old from Angola, was treated on the beach before being carefully carried up the Clifton steps by rescuers and transported to hospital by ambulance in a stable condition.
Authorities believe the incident occurred after the man went swimming and encountered difficulties in the water.
He is expected to make a full recovery.
The unidentified surfer has been widely praised for her decisive actions, with officials also commending the eyewitness who raised the alarm, as well as the coordinated response from lifeguards, emergency personnel and members of the public who assisted in saving the man’s life.
