A team of professionals and volunteers from Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) responded to an alert of a 50-year-old hiker falling from the contour path on Table Mountain on Monday afternoon.

According to WSAR, the hiker and her family were walking between India Venster and Platteklip Gorge when she stepped awkwardly and tumbled 15 metres from the trail.
‘A small rescue team on board the Western Cape Department of Health & Wellness EMS / Air Mercy Service (AMS) rescue helicopter were flown to scene and hoisted down to a point close to the injured hiker,’ WSAR reported.

Upon arrival, the 50-year-old was treated by a paramedic, placed into a rescue stretcher, hoisted from the mountain and flown to a nearby landing zone, where a waiting ambulance transported her to hospital for further treatment.
The incident was resolved at 4:25pm.
