Lion’s Head came into focus on Saturday, 10 January 2026, when Wilderness Search And Rescue (WSAR) teams and SANParks Table Mountain rangers helped a 28-year-old hiker who slipped on a loose, sandy section above the first ladder, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The teams reached her quickly, treated her on scene and stabilised her before moving her down the trail.

A Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS paramedic assessed the patient and the rescue team used a Cascade Rescue Terra Tamer wheel attached to a stretcher to ease the descent to a waiting vehicle. She left the scene in an ambulance and went to hospital for further treatment.
‘A sincere thank you to our dedicated rescue teams for their skill, professionalism and teamwork,’ the WSAR post read, recognising volunteers and agencies who worked together on the call-out.
‘Save and share the correct Emergency Contact Number – 021 937 0300,’ the group reminded the public.
Trail users should note that sections of the Lion’s Head route can be loose and slippery on descent. Wear suitable footwear, move carefully near exposed sections and carry the emergency number on your phone.
Video footage of the rescue helps show how teamwork kept the operation safe.
