A leadership showdown is looming within the Democratic Alliance as the party heads toward its crucial Federal Congress in April, where top positions are up for grabs, reports Cape {town} Etc.
Elections are scheduled for April 11 and 12, with the DA confirming its list of nominated candidates after completing its vetting process in line with party rules.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis is now set to go head-to-head with Sibusiso Dyonase for the role of party leader, a position that will soon be vacated by current leader John Steenhuisen, as per Polity.
The race for Federal Chairperson will see Solly Msimanga and Ivan Meyer contesting the role, while a crowded field has emerged for the three Deputy Federal Chairperson positions.
Those in contention for the deputy roles include Cilliers Brink, Belinda Echeozonjoku, Siviwe Gwarube, Solly Malatsi, Anroux Marais, Nomafrench Mbombo and Nicholas Nyati.
With nominations finalised, candidates have begun campaigning, engaging party delegates in a bid to secure support ahead of the vote at the upcoming congress.
The DA said all campaigns will be conducted under strict internal regulations, emphasising a fair and disciplined process as the party prepares for what it expects to be a competitive leadership contest.
