Waheed Hassan was responsible for firing the shot, which ultimately resulted in the death of beloved musician Taliep Petersen in 2006.

The murder of Taliep Petersen took place during a staged robbery at his family home in Athlone.
The incident led to the imprisonment of both Hassan and Najwa Petersen, Taliep’s wife at the time, who was believed to have orchestrated the robbery and murder.
Waheed Hassan has since been incarcerated in the Warm Bokkeveld Prison, located in Ceres.
Hassan’s parole release has been confirmed by the spokesperson for the Department of Correctional Services, Singabakho Nxumalo, who further stated that the conditions of his parole would not be made available to the public.
IOL has reported that Hassan was placed into the system of community corrections upon release. He will remain within the system until August 2033, which is when his sentence is set to expire.
Najwa Petersen is still serving a 28-year sentence after she was found guilty of robbery and murder with aggravating circumstances.
Times Live has reported that she is expected to be released on parole on November 27, pending the decision of the parole review board.
