After the fuel price hike had most South Africans clutching our wallets disparagingly, the Fuel Retailers Association (FRA) is putting its foot down to discuss the seemingly never-ending rise of fuel costs, bringing fuel levies into the conversation.
This comes after petrol increased by R2.43 per litre just last week, while diesel’s increase stands at R1.10 and R1.07 per litre respectively. Illuminating paraffin wasn’t safe from the increase either, going up by an additional R1.56.
Although some singing praises were underway due to the government extending its grace of general fuel levy cuts, this isn’t a permanent solution. This temporary fix for a long-term problem is expected to influence the FRA’s discussion.
The group are set to meet on 8 and 9 June so that the industry can “deliberate the issues,” said CEO Reggie Sibiya, as per Enca, who further elaborated that the association is feeling the burn of petrol woes too.
The FRA 2022 Conference will also talk about other fuel-related retailing, including the “future of convenience retailing,” as the FRA shares.
