On Friday, the SPCA received concerns about the animals’ welfare, prompting the rescue mission.
It was revealed that the animals were being housed in conditions that violated the Animal Protection Act.
Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse stated that leading Inspector Jeffrey Mfini had spoken with the owner, who did not follow orders.
Pieterse stated that warnings to the owner to seek veterinary care for the animals went unheeded.

After obtaining an order from the magistrate’s court to remove the animals, SPCA inspectors, assisted by City law enforcement personnel, went to the premises to carry out the confiscation.
Inspectors discovered an underweight dog and horse in the backyard, which shocked them.
‘The ribs and hip bones at the back are showing,’ Pieterse said. ‘This dog should have been seen by a vet. He is not in good shape; we will be seizing him.’
The horse was located on the other side of the land, underneath a homemade structure with a little metal fence.
The two 25-litre water buckets and the wooden box used for feeding were empty.
‘The living condition is also not ideal; this horse’s coat is dull. This is unacceptable,’ Pieterse said.
