The City’s Water and Sanitation Department will be conducting zero pressure tests on the main water supply to the Scottsville, Hout Bay area, which will result in the disruption of water supply to this area on Friday, 11 February 2022, from 9pm until 4am on Saturday, 12 February 2022.
According to the City of Cape Town, zero-pressure testing is part of the installation process for pressure management technology. Tests are done to see if there are any unmapped inflows that need to be taken into account before smart pressure reducing valves are installed.
This work forms part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy. Managing water pressure more effectively reduces the possibility of pipe bursts and water wastage.
Meanwhile, Khayelitsha’s water supply will also be shut down from Thursday, 17 February 2022 at 10am until 3pm. This five-hour shutdown will allow for the replacement of the 800mm meter insert, near Mew Way and Old Faure Road.

As part of the pro-active maintenance on the bulk water infrastructure to ensure continued water supply to the residents and an effort to reduce unaccounted for water, the 800mm water meter insert will be replaced as it has been flagged as faulty.
Residents are advised to store water in clean, sealed containers for use during this period and to ensure that their taps are closed to avoid water loss and/or damage when the supply is restored.
“The City regrets the inconvenience caused, and appreciates residents’ cooperation during this time,” says the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Councillor Zahid Badroodien.
