Yet another runaway inferno broke out, this time along the busy Houw Hoek Pass on the N2 on Thursday evening, and there was no rest for firefighters who had just begun packing up after battling the devastating Overstrand fires.

Speaking to News24, Working on Fire spokesperson Lauren Howard said that the fire sprung up in the Bot River/Houw Hoek Pass area in the Overberg Municipality.

No evacuations were ordered, and Overberg and Overstrand fire service personnel were called on to help combat the blaze.

The fire was declared contained at 4.19am on Friday morning and no injuries were reported among the firefighters. Enviro Wildfire Services in the Western Cape will be investigating the point of ignition and cause of the inferno.
Two teams from Working on Fires, the Overberg District Municipality and Cape Nature have been deployed to ensure the fire remains contained.
