According to SmileFM two suspected human trafficking recruiters made their first appearance at the Bellville Magistrates Court on Monday after the Western Cape Hawks arrested them in a probe linked to victims promised work in Thailand and then taken to Cambodia.
The Cape Argus reports accused, named as 44-year-old Adam Douglas and his 50-year-old wife Yolanda Douglas, face charges of contravention of trafficking in persons.
The Hawks said four victims were rescued during an earlier operation in May last year and investigators linked that matter to the recent arrests.
Major General MS Makgato, the Provincial Head of the Hawks in the Western Cape, urged victims to come forward so authorities and government departments can dismantle these networks and bring perpetrators to justice.
‘We urge that victims should come forward to report so the authorities can work with government departments to dismantle these networks and bring perpetrators to justice,’ he told SmileFM.
The matter was postponed to 26 February 2026 for bail information and a formal bail application.
The Hawks said the investigation is ongoing and they encourage anyone with information to contact their nearest office.
