The Eden Protocol Foundation is hosting a world-record Ice Bucket Challenge on Wednesday, 30 October, at Van Riebeeck Stadium, Mossel Bay.
With 750 participants needed to break the current record, the event is expected to draw up to 3000 entries, largely from local schools.
‘We mobilise businesses and individuals and provide opportunities where they can actively participate in our restoration protocol, which is to bring lasting and positive change to the communities we are connected to,’ explains Eden Protocol member, Ann Strauss.
‘We do this by building businesses and partnering with them, as well as with individuals, to direct resources in the form of finance, food, agriculture, education, innovation, and infrastructure to bring reform and uplift those who need it most.’
Ann and her EPF team have planned an event at the end of October that advances their community goals while offering plenty of fun for participants and spectators alike.
Beyond the fun, the challenge aims to unite the community in raising funds to support vulnerable children in the Garden Route.
The Eden Protocol Foundation is also a proud beneficiary of the Ironman 4 the Kids Trust – the outreach arm of the annual Ironman 70.3 Mossel Bay race, hosted by the town for the third time on Sunday 17 November.
‘Together, we are committed to improving the lives of children in need, and this challenge is a key part of that mission,’ explains Ann.
She says that since announcing the Ice Bucket Challenge, the response from the Mossel Bay community has been overwhelmingly positive.
‘We’ve already received commitments from prominent local figures and institutions, including the mayor of Mossel Bay and his office pledging municipal backing. Apart from the support of Point High School and Park Primary School, Mossel Bay Tourism is also on board.’
Van Riebeeck Stadium will provide a stunning backdrop for the Ice Bucket Challenge.
Its pavilion seating will create a vertical arrangement that highlights cascading buckets of ice water as participants pour them.
‘This promises to be a truly unforgettable sight and we are currently in talks with the media to secure maximum coverage of the event, ensuring that the day receives the attention it deserves, and giving exposure to all the parties working together to make our world-record attempt a roaring success,’ says Ann.
